For the past week, I've been freezing. Really.
And, it's because I have finally travelled to Australia's neighbouring country, New Zealand!
The trip was initially just for attending the 2012 Social Media and Mobile Apps Forum in Auckland. But, I have ended up adding a holiday to visit my social media BFF Christine in Christchurch, AND to go on my very first skiing holiday in Queenstown (+explore the places in-between), on top of the two-day conference and half-day workshop that I attended.
Having never been here before, I didn't quite know what to expect. But, so far, it has been a wonderful trip.
I had the chance to hang out with an old friend from Manila that I haven't seen in probably over a decade. It was great seeing her again.
And, I got to meet the lovely Lindsay Talerico, social media maven of World Vision New Zealand, over a cup of hot chocolate in Pandoro.
I have also re-connected with Jon Beattie, an acquaintance I met during a trip to New York from several years ago. He's a super smart guy who's the COO and Founder of a successful digital agency in Auckland. He happened to be one of the presenters in the Mobile Apps workshop that I attended. Yes, it was an unexpected meeting! Much like that time we ended up hanging out at Times Square with a former b5media colleague, Chad Randall.
And, of course, I also got to meet so many new and wonderful social media and digital folks here in New Zealand, both in person and through Twitter as a result of attending the event. Really loved it! I hope to be able to continue conversations in this space.
Now, I have started the holiday part of this trip. And, I am enjoying every bit of it. Yes, even though I haven't been this COLD in a very long while.
I'm even bracing myself for even colder temps as we head off to the mountains and see snow. Aaahhh, yes.
Will try to blog again as soon as I am able to. In the mean time, I have been trying to share pics and bits of stories via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and/or Tumblr.
In the meantime, here's a quick video I (sort of) took when I visited the Auckland Museum and watched the Maori Cultural Performance (highly recommended!):
Oh, sorry for the wobbly footage. There's a story behind that... 🙂
Hope you're all keeping well!
