Happy new year!
Yes, I know that almost two weeks has passed since 2015 started. And, I am also aware that it has been a month since I last blogged here. I've been avoiding these long breaks over the last few months, but this time, I got defeated. Again.
We all know that the holiday season is always a bit hectic. The wisest move would have been to give myself a break and make that official. But, I was overly confident that I would find the time to blog, regardless. Silly, me.
I'm not going to give you the details of my holidays - but, needless to say, it was more hectic than I expected. Between family time (with mom and parents-in-law visiting from overseas), work, and being ill, the month just disappeared on me.
In fact, I didn't really have my usual pondering time for my end-of-year and new year stuff. I barely managed to come up with my Word of The Year.
Thankfully, this word - GROW - just decided to plop right in front of me.
It 'said' that I've ignored it for years, attributing it to the fact that I have always thought that it seemed 'too obvious' as a word. Like choosing creativity or life or writing. It almost seems like a 'given'.
But then, I realised: That could be an altogether new experience for me. Choosing a word that seems like it has nothing new to teach me.
Every year, as I chose my words: Today (2008), Bliss (2009), Connect (2010), Shine (2011), Possibility (2012), Focus (2013), and Become (2014) - I've always felt like I had a reason NOT to choose those words. Each year had a different argument.
Yet, as days, weeks and months go by, I've always discovered new ways to look at and experience the meanings of these words. MY words. And, really, they begin to feel like they're very much part of me.
Each word I have chosen as my WOTY had really been a great influence during those years - and even long after. That's why I've become believer of this Word of the Year practice.
So, yes, even though I'm not quite sure about this one… Maybe - just maybe - GROW will grow on me. Ha. Yes, I just wrote that.
Anyway, let's see what GROW will bring in 2015.
How about you? Do you choose a Word of the Year? What's your word for 2015?
