Exploring Digital Painting

Well, my digital studio has finally arrived a couple of days ago. And, I'm really, really loving it. It makes me wonder what took me so long to take the leap.

Unfortunately, I'm absolutely swamped with work - so I haven't played with it much yet. I did a few doodles here and there. And today, I tried out the free painting software called Artrage (found via Graphics @ About.com). I'm also checking out Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and Corel Painter Essentials. If I haven't got deadlines and a massive workload --- I'll be in digital painting heaven!

Anyway, the piece you see here is just a quick digital portrait of my son using my brand new Wacom Graphire 3 with Artrage. I'm not really a portrait kind of painter. But, it's fun to give it a go now and then. Anyway, it's digital mixed media (paint/pastel-blending/pencil) - using a course canvas as ground. Nothing earth shattering - but 'am happy to be able to paint again without worrying about setting up, waiting for the paint to dry, and cleaning up. I'm sure I will still be painting using "the real stuff" - but I'm glad I've found digital painting as well.
