Web Wednesday #1: Intro + Web Finds

Web Wednesday with Shai CogginsWelcome to Web Wednesday! Consider this as the official launch of a new column here at ShaiCoggins.com.

My plan for Web Wednesday is to make it a regular feature in this blog, where I highlight anything and everything about the web. From favourite web links of the week to site reviews, blogging tips to new web tools. And, as always, your tips, feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Anyway, for Web Wednesday #1, I'd like to share with you some of my recent favourite web finds:

    magMyPic-GQ

  • MagMyPic.com - Fancy yourself on the cover of Vogue, GQ, Time, or People magazine? Well, you don't need to wait for a media miracle. Go and "magify" your pics over at MagMyPic. There are only 12 covers to choose from, but it's sort of fun to play anyway. (Thanks, Darren, for the link.)
  • Magnify - Just found this online video host, that's pretty much like YouTube. Only with a cleaner, sleeker look. It looks promising, but I haven't really explored it fully yet. Will let you know if I test drive it one day and like it. Anyway, if you want other web video options, check out my post on: Best Online Video Hosts.
  • Nikon D40/X Club - Was never really that involved in Flickr groups 'til I found this place. It's one of my favourite places to learn about my new camera.
  • Inside the Ballpark Launch - We're quite excited over at b5 that we now have a professional athlete blogging for us. Yes, one of our latest blogs to launch - Inside the Ballpark - is written by major league baseball player Hunter Pence of the Houston Astros. Admittedly, though, I don't know much about baseball. But, I still think it's pretty cool to have Hunter as part of the b5 community. Heh.
  • Bloggies 2008 - Yes, folks, its ON again. And, you're all welcome to (*cough*) nominate (*hint*) your (*ahem*) favourite (*cough some more*) blogs 'til 11 January 2008. Nah, seriously. Go and nominate your faves, even if this blog isn't one of 'em. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, if you DO want to nominate this blog, I'd be happy extremely grateful if you nominate it for either one of the following categories: Best-Kept Secret Weblog, Best Autralian/New Zealand Blog, Best Asian Blog, Best Photography of a Weblog, Best Writing of a Weblog, and/or... drumroll please... Weblog of the Year. Haha. Okay. Now, go and nominate. Well, maybe wait 'til you finish reading this post first.

By the way, you don't need to fill out all the blanks and all the categories. Just choose categories and nominate 1 (up to 3) of your favourite blogs/bloggers in each category. You can nominate the same blog/blogger in different categories. Also, don't forget to give your correct email address when sending your nominations. You'll need to click on a link that they send you to verify your ballot. Top nominees will be in the finals, where voting will start on the 22nd of January. If you have a blog, don't hesitate to nominate your own. And, ask folks you know to nominate you too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • 45 Things You Can Learn Online for Free - Deb Ng over at Simply Thrifty has a lot of suggestions in this list for all you folks who has "Learn Something New" in your New Year's Resolutions list for 2008.

Well, there 'ya go. Our first Web Wednesday. Hope you enjoy this week's finds!
