New Zealand 2012 Initial Travel Report

It has been almost two weeks since I returned to Adelaide from New Zealand. And, I've been itching to blog here since.

However, between catching up on work, helping the girl get settled at school (yes, my li'l one's a school girl now), the boy's return to school, the whole family getting sick at one time or another, getting ready to go back for my final semester at postgrad studies, making way for new projects...

Well, needless to say, blogging here at Studio Notes just kept getting pushed down the list.

And, as always, the more I end up pushing blogging aside, the more difficult I find to get back to it. It's that silly sense of unnecessary pressure and blogging guilt, I think.

That's why I thought I'd write a post here anyway. Just to stretch the blogging muscles again.

If we're connected on Facebook, you've probably already seen some snapshots from the New Zealand 2012 holiday in my photo albums. I still have a few more photos to upload in the next couple of days, but most of the pics are already up.

Just to give you an idea of our travel itinerary, it was: Auckland > Christchurch (with day trip to Hamner Springs) > Take the TranzAlpine Train to Greymouth > Greymouth / Pancake Rocks > Stop at Shantytown on the way to Fox Glacier > Fox Glacier / Lake Matheson > Drive to Queenstown > In Queenstown, we ended up going to two ski resorts: Mount Remarkable and Coronet Peak.

And, if you're planning a trip to New Zealand, this route is definitely highly recommended. Packed with so many wonderful views and things to do. We loved it all.

Family Skiing at Mount Remarkable in New Zealand

I'm not going to do a Day-by-Day account of the trip. I'm trying hard not to do a Highlights post either. But, what I am hoping to do one of these days, if or when I am able to, is to share some thematic round-up posts on New Zealand travel (Must-See Places, Best Eats and Shops, etc).

Yes, they have now made it to my ever growing list of Things to Blog About. ๐Ÿ™‚

That list doesn't grow shorter by the day, mind you. Thankfully, I can at least tick one off the list today. More later.

NOTE: The family skiing photo, by the way, is a bit misleading. This was taken right before the skiing lessons started. ... We were all getting ready to ski for ghe first time... The kids were enrolled at the Kea Kids's Club and hubby and I were in the same beginners' class.

I was actually doing much better on the skis than I anticipated. I was learning to go down small slopes, stopping, maneuvering, even jumping... Except bad luck struck me and I only lasted an hour or so during my first skiing lesson. I injured my knee and wasn't allowed to go back. ๐Ÿ™

The rest of the family, however, had a blast! Can't believe how easily the kids took to skiing. They absolutely loved it!

So now, there's a wish to get back on the slopes... And to return to New Zealand!
