I'm a little late to the Vi Hart party, but I'm glad that I finally got here anyway. Yes, my newest online fancy is this YouTube maths star. I just love the cleverness, humour, and creativity of the stuff that she does.
I wish I had a maths teacher who presented mathematical concepts like Vi Hart does in her videos. I probably wouldn't have hated maths so much when I was a student. Well, unless she isn't as fun in real life.
But, just based on these videos, Vi Hart does seem to be the kind of maths teacher that you'd want for your self, your kids... and yeah, probably for the world. 🙂
Enjoy this video on math doodling and Fibonacci:[embedplusvideo height="402" width="500" standard="http://www.youtube.com/v/ahXIMUkSXX0?fs=1" vars="ytid=ahXIMUkSXX0&width=500&height=402&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=¬es=" id="ep9760" /]
This is the first Vi Hart video I watched with my 8-year-old son. We learned the Fibonacci sequence together and worked out some tasks.
Also realised that both the boy and the girl celebrated a "Fibirthday" this year. The boy's next one is when he becomes a teen. Whoa. Not a thought I am willing to entertain at the moment. 😉
