Charity:Water Project Update and Thoughts on Personal Fundraising

For my birthday early this year, I did a fundraiser for charity:water. Having never done a personal fundraising campaign before (at least one I opted to do myself, not asked of me), I knew at the beginning of the year that it was something that I wanted to do.

I chose charity:water due to a few reasons, but mostly because it stands for a cause that I feel strongly about - addressing poverty in some way.

And, with the help of some family and friends, we raised over $700 for a project that helps to provide clean, safe, water for people. I was very pleased and grateful for the support. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday.

I have learned a lot from the whole process and I have been meaning to share some things about personal fundraising that I have learned about. So, when I received this email from charity:water to let me know how the project was progressing, I thought it might be a good time to reflect.

So yes, it looks like the project has kicked off and we're going to get some more updates on how the money we raised is being used. Basics:

  • The project is in 3-6 month cycle, so the money has been sent and partners are currently in the planning process.
  • They're not sure yet which country has received the allocated funds, but we will get future updates on the topic.

I thought that this is an excellent way to keep in touch with sponsors/donors. It's good to know what is happening to the funds that were raised. That's why I hope to be able to share with you every time I receive an update.

So, what's next after this project?

I'm not sure yet. All I know is that I am hoping to put together another similar fundraising event some time. I'm currently looking in to options. And, I hope to start another fundraiser in the next few months. And, I am hoping to apply whatever I learned from this first fundraising event to the next one.

Again, thank you to all of you who supported my first fundraising event. It was an amazing, lovely experience.
