Watch 100 New Movies: #31Newness No. 9

20131009-170706.jpg

Earlier this year, I was given this assignment in one of the self-paced workshop on filmmaking that I was working on. The challenge: Watch 100 New Movies A Year.

I silently cheered.

How can I not? It certainly sounds like the kind of assignment that I'd be more than happy to do.

Except, now that it's 9 months later, I'm only at Movie Number 57. And, yet, I feel as though I've never watched so many movies in my life.

Who knows how anyone can get to watch 100 movies in a year.

Unless it's your job to watch  movies, I guess. Or, you take too many international flights.

I also realised another thing: I tend not to watch movies if it doesn't immediately grab my interest. So, I skip movies a lot. And, I end up watching and re-watching only the movies I love. It's great, but not so good when it comes to expanding one's movie horizons.

That's why with this assignment, I realised that I couldn't be too choosy. That's why Netflix has been a great thing for me. I get automatic recommendations (not that I follow them that much). And, yes, there's a LOT of movies to choose from. Granted, not all of those movies are great. But, some of the movies I managed to catch up with have been really good for me. Like finally watching The Breakfast Club and Roman Holiday.

Outside of that, this is also the year I've been converted into becoming a Trekkie, due to the recent movies.

In any case, I've been meaning to share with you my list over the last few months. So, I decided that today is finally the day that I get to do that.

I'm not doing a full review of any of these films right now, but you can find my ratings and basic notes on some of them. I'm also highlighting the films that scored 4 or over.

What about you? What new movies have you watched this year so far? What are your favourites? Can you suggest anything else I should on to my list?
