Since I enjoyed bring back the Friday Five approach last week, I thought I'd try that again today. This time, sharing with you 5 quotes that I liked about the topic or the idea of "new". Which means this will be a short blog post. And, that's good for all of us in some way, right? 🙂
1. "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." - Albert Einstein
I've always loved this quote. It reminds me why it's okay to make mistakes. To fail. People who try new things often do a lot of wrong things. That's how we learn. That's how we get better.
I also know from experience that in order to do something REALLY GOOD, we have to be brave enough to try things that no one else has tried before. Or at least, not in the way we want to do it. That means: There will be no manuals, no guide posts, no gurus to tell us the right or the wrong way. It will all have to be trial and error. And, that's just how we can make it great.
2. "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." - C. S. Lewis
Another long time favourite quote.
Yes, I believe that there might be some things that we'd be too old to do or to try. But, most things are fair game. We just need to adjust our expectations.
We can still learn ballet or play the violin, even when we're in our 40s or 50s. However, we might not expect to join the national ballet company or the orchestra if we're not exactly trained. But, it doesn't mean that that dream of dancing ballet or playing the violin is out of the question.
3. "With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts." - Eleanor Roosevelt
Each day is a fresh start, if we let it be.
Yesterday's problems can be less daunting, more doable, if we allow the momentum of a new day to help us through. This is one way to keep going. Otherwise, it would all be just too much.
4. "True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done, the zest of creating things new." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
This is a creative person's quote. Or perhaps, our mantra.
Doing stuff as well as we can. Making new things. These are things that bring us to that level of joy that we can't always explain.
5. "A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions." - Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Another one of my favourite quotes. It's a great reminder that when "newness" touches us, we are never the same. That new place we visited. The new person we've met. The new movie we watched or the new book we read. Our lives are forever altered because of those little new things. And, that's part of the beauty of each new thing that happens in our lives.
