It was over five years ago when I introduced you to my last Nokia phone (Neve). I think after Neve, I ended up with my first (and only) iPhone back in 2011. And now, I've returned to Nokia - with my very first Windows Phone: the very snazzy Nokia Lumia 1020.
Since I've been using Windows 8 for about a year now, it didn't feel too daunting to use Windows OS on my mobile phone too. If anything, it helped me to make the switch.
Admittedly, it wasn't a quick jump for me. I was so used to my old phone that I was a bit hesitant to change. I was especially worried because my phone became integral to my work and my day-to-day lifestyle.
I'm no SMS/text addict nor do I use my phone to call people all that much. But, I loved it for its camera and web capabilities. And, it was one of my essential gadgets for blogging and social media. In other words: my livelihood.
Since I became quite dependent on some of the apps, I knew that the change would be something that would be tough for me to get accustomed to. In fact, even before I purchased this phone, I was already doing quite a bit of research. I started talking to other Windows Phone users and following what apps are available.
When I realised that most of the apps that I use have become available on Windows Phones (eg, Instagram, Spotify, Twitter, Facebook, Evernote, etc), I began to consider making the switch more seriously. Then, just a couple of weeks ago, when someone showed me this Nokia Lumia 1020 in person - I was sold.
How can I not fall in love with it?
It has an amazing camera with 41 Megapixels and has several camera apps that utilise its features (including this fun thing called Cinemagraph, which I hope to blog about some other time). And, since the camera is something that I use a lot with my mobile phone, this was definitely something that swayed me big time. The fact that it was on sale (for over a $200 off that weekend) sealed the deal for me.
Other reasons for loving the Nokia Lumia 1020:
And yes, I know that I'm not the only one who's loving this Nokia Lumia 1020. It even won Readers' Gadget of the Year award at the Stuff Gadget of The Year 2013 Awards, saying that it is the 'best cameraphone ever made'.
So yes, so far, I'm really happy with my new phone, which I've christened Mr Lumi. Can't ask for a better wedding anniversary/early Christmas present. 🙂
That's right. As some of you already know, I tend to give names to things that are close to me - including my phones, cameras, computers, and cars. And, I've named my new phone Mr Lumi. Apparently, Lumi is Finnish and Estonian for "snow" - I thought it was very fitting as I've decided to go for the white Nokia Lumia 1020. It was a tough choice, as both the yellow and black phones looked great too.
Anyway, I'm hoping to share some of my favourite apps in the coming weeks and months.
If you have a Windows Phone too, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it - and your app recommendations, of course.
Disclosure: I work with Microsoft on a contracting basis via my company, Vervely. But, I paid for this phone myself and no one has asked me to post a review. And, I am not receiving any additional compensation for blogging about this phone from anyone.
